Q. What is a branch association?
A. It’s a volunteer based, non-profit organization common within branches of the CF that’s designed to advance the interests of that particular branch.
Q. What does the CIC Branch Association of BC do?
A. It brings together interested and engaged members of the CIC in BC to address issues and provide support and social opportunities to its fellow members.
Q. What are the goals?
A. The goals of the CIC Branch Association of BC are to provide networking opportunities, provide professional development not offered by the RCIS, further the professional standing and esprit de corps of those in support of the cadet movement in BC and make recommendations to the Branch Advisory Council about issues that affect CIC in BC.
Q. What is the Branch Advisory Council?
A. It’s a national group of CIC officers each representing a region. The group reports directly to D Cdts on issues that affect CIC. They rely on the engagement of CIC in their area through communication tools such as the ones that will be set up by the Branch Association. The Branch Association in BC will advise the Pacific Region Branch Advisor on CIC issues.
Q. Is the branch association an RCSU(P) organization?
A. No, unlike the Branch Advisory Council the Branch Association is not within the chain of command. This is important since the association must be able to speak without interference. That being said, the Branch Association has been formed with the approval of the CO RCSU (P).
Q. Are there other CIC Branch Associations elsewhere in Canada?
A. Yes, we are modeled after a very successful association in Eastern Region and other regions have begun looking at starting their own as well.
Q. What do I get out of joining?
A. You will gain access to exclusive social events, PD sessions and regular communications disseminated by the Association. During these early stages, you will have the opportunity to build the Branch Association together with other passionate CIC officers across BC. You will also have immediate access to the networking opportunities among your fellow members should you wish to address issues pertaining to CIC in BC.
Q. What type of PD will be offered?
A. PD will vary depending on geographical location. For example, it could be speaker series or webinar. It will be tailored towards the interests of the membership.
Q. Will PD be offered outside of the lower mainland?
A. Absolutely. As this is a Provincial Association, we will endeavor to include all interested CIC in BC.
Q. Where does my $20 annual membership fee go?
A. Your annual dues are deposited into the Branch Association’s general account which are managed by the Council and President elected by the membership.
Q. Will the fee remain at $20/year?
A. Not necessarily. Annual dues are subject to change as the association grows and if deemed necessary by the executive committee and president.
Q. Are there additional costs to attend PD/events?
A. There may be depending on the event. For example, a PD retreat could have additional costs above and beyond the annual membership fee.
Q. How much time do I have to commit a month?
A. Spend as much or as little as you like. You may wish to stand for election and become a member of Council which will consume a little more time than general membership.
Q. Are there any retailer discounts with my membership?

A. Ordinary members are currently serving CIC that reside in BC. Associate members are almost everyone else involved in the Cadet movement in BC such as non-CIC members and volunteers working with COATS, formally serving CIC and Navy/Army/Air Cadet League members.
